Some people are all about finding museums and historical places when they travel. (Don’t get me wrong. I do love a great cultural travel experience.) Some people, like my dad, are all about finding Chinatowns, so that they can relish the flavor of Cantonese dim sum. I, however, look for bakeries.
I was deprived of my needs (and wants, of course) while at college. Honestly, I did not know of a good bakery that I could just spend my entire paycheck on. So I’ve gotten into the habit of looking up bakery places whenever I go someplace new. Cupcakes are my favorite baked delicacy. I bake whenever I’m stressed, and my close friends have had to pay the price for it with their waistlines. I love the beauty of holding an entire cake in my hand, as if it were a
Tiffany’s box. [Note: Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a Tiffany box in my hand. But, metaphorically speaking, holding a cupcake in my hand equates to the same happiness and lust carried inside a Tiffany's box.] My cupcakes don’t look all that pretty, which is why I indulge in the beauty of cake decorating and artwork whenever I go to bakeries. But, all in all, I believe that the taste supersedes anything else.
Now that I’m in Taipei, I’ve gotten into the habit of going to bakeries almost everyday. This is mostly because bakeries here take great pride in their work and will create beautiful desserts for display and for sweet tooths like me. I walk past bakeries almost everyday and will oftentimes just stare in love and lust for just one more bite. One day, I hope, I’ll open a bakery of some sort. When I’m retired, perhaps I’ll start my own cupcake shop. That’s all. Just my thought for the day.
